The OC Design Awards recognize design solutions and the designers, students, companies and organizations throughout the country that use their creative influence to create a positive impact for our profession. The competition recognizes design that challenges us to think of solutions outside of the box that solve everyday problems. As creatives we are problem solvers. It is based on our fundamental belief that through better design we can build a better society. Work that is entered should reflect these attributions. In addition, the work entered should be for Orange County or made in Orange County.* After all, we want to recognize the work that has helped OC’s Creative Economy!
We want to see great design! Because of this our pricing structure allows you to enter multiple pieces of work–giving you a great value and allowing you much more exposure. Each ENTRY allows you up to 4 submissions. Each SERIES allows you up to 8 submissions. You can enter your submission(s) into any combination of categories you like. For example, if you paid for an entry, you could enter one submission into four different categories or enter four different submissions into four different categories! This allows you the maximum exposure in the contest because you can show a broad range of your work. In addition, if you are submitting a campaign, it would count as only one submission, leaving you three additional submissions.*

†Education pricing allows a school/university to represent their current attending student’s work. The student does not need to be a member to qualify. The Education Partner opportunity allows the school/university to be recognized as a supporter of design and art by displaying their logo on the OC Design Awards website with a link and special announcement during the Awards event. All designers and creative professionals, art and design students, educators, and business and/or organizations of design are encouraged to enter. Entrants need not be members of AIGA. All design work entered in the competition should focus the eligible types of work accepted. We are looking for excellence in design solutions that actively engage in enriching our lives. This could be, for example, raising awareness about a cause or condition or celebrating an art institution or event, even branding and advertising can enrich our communities! Lastly, ensure your work entered was made for Orange County or made in Orange County.* Only work produced or published between January 1, 2012 and March 15, 2013 may qualify. Printed work must be published in excess of 250 impressions with the exception of invitations/announcements and posters, which must be published in excess of 50. All work by professionals must have been published, aired or produced to be eligible. Student work is not required to be published or have a minimum number of impressions. Complete the Enter Contest section, pay, and then e-mail files using our sites upload feature only. Mailed entries will not be considered.
The 2013 OC Design Awards recognizes designers, students, companies and organizations whose work best represents design excellence in a variable list of design-focused fields. “We understand the power of design because design is everywhere.” This year’s categories are:
- BRAND IDENTITY (PERSONAL OR BUSINESS)
- PRINT DESIGN/TYPOGRAPHY
- PACKAGE DESIGN
- WEB/INTERACTIVE/MOTION GRAPHICS/UI DESIGN
- INFORMATION/ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
Additional categories may be added later or can be submitted but are not guaranteed to be accepted and may be moved to a closely matching available category. Gold and Silver awards given in each of the following categories:

HOW YOUR JUDGED
Each submission will have an equal chance of winning. Each submission entered will be judged on a 10-point system in five components of each category. The five components are as follows:
- Was the submission produced in Orange County or for a client/cause in Orange County?
- Subject Matter/Concept–is it appropriate for the category and utilizes standard or non-standard uses/forms/techniques to effectively communicate the overall message?
- Effective use of Materials–textiles/paper/digital
- Overall Design Aesthetic–is the submission executed and crafted well from a design and technical standpoint?
